Document Download Naming
Document Number Based Settings
You can change this by going to Publication Space > Settings > Numbering.
Default Setting
By default when a document is downloaded, RIB CX downloads the filename it was originally uploaded as. This will download the document with it's default name (i.e. name at the time of upload).
Document Number [Revision].extension
Changing the setting to Document Number [Revision].extension, will download the document as per example below:
Document C008 is downloaded
The downloaded file is named as below...
Document Number [Revision] Title.extension
Changing the setting to Document Number [Revision] Title.extension, will download the document as per example below:
Document C008 is downloaded
The downloaded file is named as below...
Custom Text Field
You can also customise the file name of the documents downloaded from publication space with:
Custom Text Field. extension - When you change to this, the downloaded file will be named your Custom Text Field followed by '.' and then extension number
Custom Text Field [ Revision ]. extension - What you change to this, the downloaded document will be named Custom Text Field [ Revision ].extension
Once either of these options are selected, you must pick from a list of text fields in the publication drop menu in the file name. In our example we have used text user field 'Alt Doc#'
Step by Step Example:
When you configure any of the custom text options, in this case 'Custom Text Field [Revision].extension' then...
Custom Text Field [Revision].extension setting is selected in Publication Pace Settings
Confirmation that this setting is now configured successfully
'ALTDOC: Alt Doc #' is a custom text user field in Publication Space. You can choose any other custom text user field in Publication Space settings
Configuration is now complete.
As a user:
When document is uploaded user will be able to add custom text in Alt Doc# user field
When upload is complete you see the Alt Doc # appear with the custom text file name that was added by the user:
When you download it, it will appear with the setting that is configured : Custom Text Field [Revision].extension → SideDoor#5 [A].pdf
Custom Bracket and Spacing Options
You can customise how revisions appear in downloaded filenames—with the option to use round brackets ( ) instead of square brackets [ ], and to remove the spaces around the revision for tighter naming. This supports internal naming conventions and makes downloaded files match your upload rules more closely.
Feature | What It Means |
|---|---|
Bracket type toggle | A tick-box lets users switch between |
Optional spacing control | A separate tick-box allows removing the spaces around the bracketed revision |
Download output updated accordingly | Filenames update dynamically based on pattern and spacing settings |
Applies to single and bulk downloads | Works consistently when downloading one or many documents |
How Custom Brackets and Spacing Options Work
In Download Naming Settings, you’ll now see:
A tick-box to change the brackets
(Revision)instead of[Revision]:A tick-box to remove spaces around the revision, e.g.:
With spacing:
12345 (Rev 02) Title.pdfWithout spacing:
12345(Rev 02)Title.pdf
These settings apply to all downloads made from that project.
