Hierarchy Views Setup
Feature Overview
Hierarchy Views let you organise related work into structured levels and navigate them visually in one place. Instead of jumping between multiple registers, you can move across your process - from high-level stages down to individual records - using a single, connected view.
This is especially useful for workflows like Commissioning, Quality, or Work Packages, where items are naturally linked (e.g. Stage → ITP → Work Lot → Action).

When to Use This
Use Hierarchy Views when:
Your process spans multiple linked form types
You need visibility across levels (not just one register)
You want to avoid jumping between screens

Setting Up a Hierarchy
Step 1 – Create
Go to Configure → Hierarchy
Click Create
Enter:
Name
Menu location
Step 2 – Add levels
Add each level using existing form types
Example:
Level 1 → Stage Construction
Level 2 → ITP
Level 3 → Work Lot
Step 3 – Define structure
Use indent/outdent to set parent-child relationships
Reorder levels as needed
Step 4 – Configure each level
For each level:
Choose Display Type:
Default Register
Criteria-Based Register
Set:
Columns
Pinned fields (filters users will use)
Step 5 – Save
Save to publish
Navigating a Hierarchy (End User)
When you open a hierarchy:
Layout
Top → hierarchy (cards across levels)
Bottom → register
Basic flow
Start at Level 1 (all records shown)
Click a card → drills into next level
Register updates instantly
Moving Through Levels
You can navigate in three ways:
Click cards (top)
Select a level or record directly
Click child badges (in register)
Drill down to the next level
Click parent links
Move back up the hierarchy
Think of it like browsing folders—but everything stays on one screen.
Understanding the Cards
Each level shows:
Form type name
Record count
Selected state
When drilled into a record:
Shows reference + title
Shows status
Shows position (e.g. 1 of 8)
Using Filters (Pinned Fields)
Each level can have its own filters.
How it works
Filters appear above the register
Apply filters → register updates
Counts across hierarchy update
Important behaviour
Filters:
Stay active when drilling down
Do not break parent-child context
Reset when leaving the hierarchy
Register Behaviour
The register always reflects your current position:
Where you are | What you see |

Extra columns:
Parent → link back up
Child → drill down
Progress → completion based on children
These columns are only available in a Hierarchy View
They are not filterable using column filters.
Progress Tracking
If a level has children:
Progress shows % complete
Based on open vs closed child records
