Introducing RIB CX Commissioning (MVP Release)
What is Commissioning?
Commissioning is a structured process used on construction projects to make sure that all systems and equipment - like pumps, cables, ventilation systems, etc. - are installed properly and actually work the way they’re meant to. It’s a step-by-step process that helps catch problems early, track what’s been tested, and hand over a site that works as expected.
At its core, commissioning is about planning, testing, fixing, and signing off.
What’s Commissioning in RIB CX?
In RIB CX, Commissioning is built as a new module that helps teams manage this process digitally, from start to finish. You can:
Set up your commissioning structure — e.g. by system, area, or stage.
Import assets — like equipment or parts that need to be tested.
Define which tests apply to each asset using a Test Matrix.
Generate test forms (called ITRs) — for each asset and phase (like Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning).
Track progress as work gets completed on-site.
Capture issues and defects directly from the field, using mobile devices.
Everything happens inside the familiar RIB CX platform, so teams can collaborate, view reports, and track progress without needing extra tools or spreadsheets.
Who is this for?
This module is designed for:
Commissioning Managers who need to plan, assign, and track tests across large volumes of assets
Site Engineers who are responsible for completing tests and checklists
QA and Compliance Teams who need a clear audit trail of what’s been tested, when, and by whom
Project Managers who need visibility into progress, issues, and readiness for handover
Whether you're working on a tunnel, a plant, or a hospital, this helps keep all your commissioning work in one place.
What problems does it solve?
Most teams today manage commissioning in Excel. That works early on — but becomes painful as the project grows.
Common pain points:
Test forms live in separate files or folders
It’s hard to track what’s done and what’s missing
Linking issues, RFIs, and checklists is manual and error-prone
Handover is rushed, with poor visibility and inconsistent records
The CX Commissioning module brings all of this into one structured system — so teams stay on top of what’s been tested, what still needs doing, and where the issues are.
Key Concepts We’ve Introduced
To make commissioning work smoothly in RIB CX, we’ve introduced three core building blocks:
1. Structure
Think of this as the container for your project’s commissioning setup - like a folder that holds everything. You might create a Structure per project or per major phase (like “Tunnel Fitout” or “Stage 1 Handover”).
2. View
This is how you look at your data - you can create different Views to see assets and test reports grouped by system, location, phase, or any other field. Views let you monitor progress and manage forms.
3. Test Matrix
This is where you set the rules: which test templates apply to which assets and when. Once set up, RIB CX automatically knows what tests to generate - saving time and reducing errors.
What’s in This First Release (MVP)?
This MVP includes:
Commissioning Structures – Organise your assets by system, location, or project phase
Asset Import – Bring in asset data from Excel
Test Matrix – Map assets to ITR templates and phases
ITR Form Generation – Create forms in bulk (or manually) for each asset
Checklist Completion – Fill out checklists, add attachments, and log comments
Issue Creation – Log punch list items or defects from within the test form
Views – Create reports and dashboards to track progress by any field
Mobile Support – Complete and review forms on mobile, even offline
It’s a starting point - deliberately kept focused - so we can gather real feedback and make sure it works well for your teams and projects.

Workflow-Level Reporting Enhancements
Feature Overview
We’ve added new workflow-level fields to Global Search and Saved Searches to improve visibility and reporting on workflow progress, reviewers, and timelines. These fields help users track delays, status, step counts, and reviewers - all without needing to drill into individual forms.
This makes it much easier for document controllers, contract admins, and project leads to run reports across multiple workflows in a single search.
What’s New
Change | What It Means |
|---|---|
New workflow-level columns | Can now be added to the Global Search layout and filters for workflow-based searches |
Fields support sorting and filtering | Each column supports filtering with the correct operator (see below)
|
Fields can be exported to Excel | All fields available in Excel exports from Global Search |
Saved Searches supported | Users can include these new columns in saved searches *Currently excluded from Dashboard widget criteria. |
Available Workflow-Level Columns
All fields listed below can be:
Added to the column layout
Used in filter criteria
Used for sorting and Excel export
Combined with date and user filters (e.g. overdue workflows, workflows involving me, workflows by step name)
Field Name | Description | Search Operator Type |
|---|---|---|
Workflow Issued Date | Date the workflow was first created | Date operators |
Workflow Planned End Date | Original end date (based on total step durations) | Date operators |
Workflow Forecast End Date | Updated end date as steps are completed | Date operators |
Workflow Actual End Date (Date first Closed) | Date when the workflow was completed | Date operators |
Workflow Status | Status (e.g. In Progress, Completed) | Select operator |
Step Name | Name of the current step If the current step is a parallel stage of a workflow it will display “Parallel Step” To see the step details run a Step view search. | Text (input) |
Reviewer | Reviewer of the current workflow step | Contact operator |
Workflow Steps Completed | Number of workflow steps marked as completed | Number (equals, less than, etc.) |
Workflow Total Steps | Total steps in the workflow | Number (equals, less than, etc.) |
Days Late | Days between actual and planned end dates (if completed) | Number (equals, greater than, etc.) |
Days Overdue | Days past forecast end date (if still in progress) | Number (equals, greater than, etc.) |
Workflow Template | Template used for the workflow | Select operator (multi-select) |
How It Works
These fields only apply when searching at the Workflow level.
Reviewer and Step Name show the current reviewer and step.
If the workflow is completed or cancelled, these values show as
–.If the workflow is currently in a parallel stage - the current step will show - Parallel Step.
Days Late is shown only after completion.
Days Overdue applies only while the workflow is still active.
Sample Output
Here’s an example of what a workflow-level search result might include:
Workflow Title | Template | WTX # | Issued | Planned End | Forecast End | Actual End | Step Name | Reviewer | Status | Steps Completed | Total Steps | Days Late | Days Overdue |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Shop Drawings Review | Shop Drawing WF | WTX#0001 | 1-Jun-25 | 15-Jun-25 | 15-Jun-25 | – | Architectural Review | Jack Sparrow | In Progress | 0 | 2 | – | 0 |
Benefits
See all key workflow metrics in one place
Easier to track delays and overdue workflows
Identify workflows stuck on a specific step or user
Export full workflow-level data to Excel
Build dashboards with new workflow insights
Workflow Step-Level Reporting Enhancements
Feature Overview
You can now search, filter, and report on individual workflow steps using Global Search, and Saved Searches. This enables powerful new use cases like tracking overdue steps, identifying bottlenecks by reviewer, or reporting on duration variances between planned and actual timelines.
Step-level visibility complements the broader workflow-level reporting, giving document controllers and project teams precise control over tracking progress.

Restricted Custom Field Types in Publication Space
Feature Overview
To avoid confusion and unsupported configurations, the custom field type dropdown in Publication Space now only shows the field types that are actually supported. This prevents users from creating field types like Checkbox or File Upload that are not compatible with PS.
What’s New
Change | What It Means |
|---|---|
Supported field types only | Users can now only select from: Number, Currency, Text, Select, Cascading, Date, Contact, State |
Unsupported types removed from dropdown | Types like Checkbox, Radio Button, File, etc. are no longer shown or selectable |
Common Fields config updated | In Manage Common Fields, unsupported types are visible but disabled (read-only) |
API/import validation | API or import attempts to create unsupported field types return a validation error |
No impact to form-level field creation | The field type dropdown for Forms is unchanged and still supports all types |
